The Treatment

Five Day Alcohol Rehab Treatment
Our five day alcohol rehab treatment for alcohol recovery consists of a detox and a method of physical treatment over five days at our clinic in Riga, Latvia. As Latvia is an EU country medical standards are high, many of their doctors are trained in the UK and a problem such as alcoholism isn’t a taboo subject as it is in the UK.

Taking Care of Everything During the Alcohol Rehab treatment
Aluston Health takes care of all steps covered by the alcohol rehab treatment so you don’t have to worry about anything. If you have any questions please take a look at our FAQs, call us for free on 0191 551 1336 or visit our contact us page.

We request that you don't drink in the six hours leading up to your flight, otherwise the airline may refuse to allow you to fly. After arriving in Riga the alcohol rehab treatment starts with a detox and moves onto ‘The Code’ injection or physical treatment with Disulfiram implantable tablets. These steps are covered in more detail below.

Detox open/close

Arrival at the Alcohol Rehab Clinic
After arriving at the private alcohol rehab medical clinic, patients undergo a medical and start with a detox. This part of the alcohol rehab treatment is very important as it ensures your body is free of alcohol. Overall the detox will last three to four days, during which time you will be closely monitored in the alcohol rehab clinic by at least one fully qualified doctor and his medical team.

Alcoholic Rehab Detox
During the alcoholic rehab detox blood samples are taken and your heartrate is monitored. Symptomatic therapy is administered in the form of additional drugs to help your body cope with the withdrawal of alcohol during the alcohol rehab. As the detox goes on electrolyte and vitamin injections are combined with:

  • Enterosorbents. Your body will gather harmful toxins and substances during any period of alcohol addiction. Enterosorbents help to absorb and remove these harmful substances.
  • Sedatives and tranquilizers. The changes in your body while in detox place a lot stress on your body. Sedatives and tranquilizers will play a big part in keeping you calm and comfortable throughout the process.
  • Neuroleptics. Your body will react when deprived of alcohol, usually in a manner opposite to the way alcohol works. This is known as abstinence syndrome. Insomnia, restlessness, tremulousness, hallucinations, and in the extreme, potentially fatal tonic-clonic convulsions can be effects of abstinence syndrome. The administration of neuroleptics will manage these effects.

Once the alcoholic rehab detox has been completed you will be ready for further treatment as part of your alcohol rehab, either via a code injection or implantable Disulfiram tablets.

The Code open/close

What Is The Code?
The Code is an injection of a chemical as part of the alcoholic rehab treatment, working on the addiction side of the brain by reducing your craving for alcohol, blocking receptors in a very similar to the Champix drug that stops you smoking.

An effective treatment for alcohol addiction, patients using the drug are commonly referred as coding patients. Our chemical is added to saline and administered intravenously through a drip or by injection. This takes around an hour and is followed by the aversive alcohol test to demonstrate the reaction after the alcohol intake.

How The Alcohol Rehab Treatment Works?
Reaction of the treatment duting the alcohol rehab is pretty much the same as with Disulfiram, blocking the enzyme Acetaldehyde Dehydrogenase within your body. This is an enzyme that breaks down Acetaldehyde in your system. Acetaldehyde is one of the major causes of the symptoms of a hangover. With limited production of Acetaldehyde Dehydrogenase, alcohol intake after the administration of Disulfiram during the alcoholic rehab treatment will result in an Acetaldehyde concentration of up to eight times higher than usual.

What If I Drink After The Alcohol Rehab Treatment?

If you do drink after the alcoholic rehab treatment your body has no counteraction to the chemical that causes the effects of a hangover. With no way to counteract this chemical there will be an immediate and severe reaction to any alcohol you drink.

Symptoms can include flushing of the skin, accelerated heart rate, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, headache, visual disturbance, mental confusion, and circulatory collapse.

The effects of the treatment lasts for at least 12 months after the alcoholic rehab treatment.

Implantable Disulfiram Tablets open/close

What is This Treatment?
This method of alcohol rehab treatment is administered by implantable antabuse Disulfiram tablets. These tablets are implanted under the skin, around the lower stomach area (not at the exposed parts of the body, for cosmetic reasons) through small incisions made under local anesthetic. These incisions are no larger than 2cm in length.

This is a treatment for patients with a more advanced addiction to alcohol. Your body encapsulates the tablets, allowing for the slow release of the drug over eight to twelve months.

What is Disulfiram (Antabuse)?
Disulfiram(antabuse) is a drug used to produce an acute sensitivity to alcohol. Disulfiram blocks the enzyme Acetaldehyde Dehydrogenase within your body, an enzyme that breaks down Acetaldehyde in your system. Acetaldehyde is one of the major causes of the symptoms of a hangover. With limited production of Acetaldehyde Dehydrogenase, alcohol intake after the administration of Disulfiram will result in an Acetaldehyde concentration of up to eight times higher than usual
